Lex’s 4th Birthday: Ni Hao Kai Lan
Every time my baby girl’s birthday rolls around I begin having visions of grandeur. I love picking a theme or color scheme and seeing just how far I can take it. It rarely turns out quite the way I imagine but its still a lot of fun and since no one else knows about all the things I DIDN’T end up getting out to the dessert table, they are pretty impressed too
Coming up with the perfect party ideas for a little girl is not always easy. My preference is to do parties a bit outside the box, as in, not just buy a party pack with a bunch of Disney Princesses printed on everything. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Belle and Cinderella, but I would rather make decorations myself and carry the theme over into creative treats and games.
Two years ago, Lex was really into the Nick Jr. show, Ni Hao Kai Lan and when we took a trip to Party City, she chose that as her theme. Some of the desserts we had were character cupcakes from XOXO Cupcakes and Coffee, customized fortune cookies, candy sushi, marshmallow pops, fruit kabobs, and PB&J sandwiches. We had red and blue Squeez-Its and punch to drink.
For decoration I bought some of the Party City themed paper goods and then used those as a reference to chose colors. There was a lot of red and blue and some yellow and orange too. We had lanterns, balloons, and I used scrap-booking paper to make a really nice Happy Birthday banner.
I’m usually running around like a chicken with my head cut off during her parties and I always forget to take pictures of all the things I work so hard on. My mom is so patient and does her best to help me pull off all of my little projects.
Since Lex’s birthday is in June, we had an outdoor party with lots of bright fun games like bowling, horseshoes, hoola hoops, a coloring table, and always a pinata.
The adorable little tutu outfit Lex is wearing was custom made by Your Sparkle Box and was intended to resemble Kai Lan herself.
Now that spring has arrived, we will be brewing ideas for our oldest baby’s 6th birthday. Do you have any suggestions for us? What themes have been catching your eye lately? Leave a comment below!
